Timken is committed to environmental outreach efforts that engage stakeholders in our global communities. Below are some examples of the role we've played in educating and supporting our stakeholders.
Working Green
To celebrate Earth Day, we launched a sustained campaign emphasizing how each individual’s actions can help reduce our environmental footprint and achieve the company’s environmental goals. We encouraged associates to pledge a committment to "working green" on boards at their facility or through a global online discussion board, where associates shared pledges and tips for being green at work. Associates at many facilities also committed to cleaning local parks, planting trees and promoting recycling and energy conservation.
Community Outreach
In Bangalore, India, Timken’s efforts in global citizenship have improved the availability of clean water to the community. When the Karnataka State Government instituted new sewage and water recycling ordinances, Timken joined in the critical environmental project. Constructing both an underground sewage treatment plant (STP) and a rain-harvesting system, Timken began providing clean water to support area farms, a vital source of fresh produce in this fast-growing metropolis. The STP safely recycles sanitary water, and the network of underground pipes prevents wastewater odors. The rain-harvesting system connects storm-water pipes from Timken’s building to an underground storage tank used for landscape irrigation. Soak pits, created where pipes intersect, allow rain to seep back into the earth. The investment has decreased the need for fresh water to maintain Timken’s landscaped areas, and the rainwater is channeled so that it benefits local agriculture.
